Can I Hook Up An Electric Snow Shovel To A Car Battery?

The power shovel is like a weedwhacker size, and is annoying dragging around a cord. any way i could hook up the cord from it to a battery source i could mount on the snow shovel linked below? http://www.epinions.com/hmgd-Lawn_and_Ga…

The amount of power to run a snow shovel is going to be too much for a typical battery. Normal batteries won’t last but only a few minutes. Starting your car and using the car battery is an option, but you will need a DC to AC inverter which would be expensive for the wattage of a typical snow blower. That option requires a cord as well and would defeat the purpose. There won’t be a small enough battery available to mount on the snow shovel to do the work that you need. Sorry, I think you’ll have to live with the cord.
It’s possible yes. BUT, between the weight you would be adding to the unit, with the battery and the inverter, as well as the cost…you will be better off dealing with the cord.

You could but its not the brightest idea. Practically worthless really. First it needs an inverter to convert ac current to dc current. That will run close to $200. Battery $50. Then the battery will only last a little bit since nothing can charge it. Battery charger $60. Fabricating of a battery mount along with the wires would pose another problem. I think I would just stick to a snow shovel or use that money to buy a blade and chains for my garden tractor.
yes you need an inverter to turn the DC into AC You need a big one and it will cost you more than a few dollars. Check the wattage ratings on both the shovel and inverter. In addition theis will put quite a bit on electrical “load” on the battery. You’ll probably need to keep the car idled

Remove the snow, as soon as humanly possible. The risk of an expensive and dangerous roof collapse should outweigh the dubious benefits of 'extra insulation'.

First off, stay off the mound! If a hole has opened up it means the dirt has gone somewhere. The top may have failed and your child could fall into the tank. I'm afraid you will need to have it inspected by a professional.
Second. Never pack down the snow on a mound system. It will freeze! No sledding, no snowmobiles, no grazing animals. A frozen septic is just the worst. (I can attest to that.)
If you just moved in then you need to contact the agent who sold you the home. I know in my county that any home sold must have the septic system checked over first. You may need to bill the previous owner or work it out with the agent.

It's actually fairly simple, for magic.
The unit used reads the magnetic field set up around the charged wire. When this magnetic field disappears, so did the current and you have passed the break.

OMG! I'm laughing so hard! I'm remembering what one of the boys in my neighborhood did. He had just gotten his first car, and was now far too "cool" to ride the bus to school. It had snowed about a foot. He whipped out the garden hose, and sprayed down the snow in his driveway, until he could get his car out of the garage and driveway.
Imagine how HUGE his Dad's eyes must have been, when his Dad arrived home from work hit that now ice covered driveway, and his car slid strait into one of the pillars of the garage and two of the garage doors!
Can you say "GROUNDED!" Can you say car keys not only taken away, but the tires removed on the car to make sure he didn't drive it? Can you say, "pissed off teenage boy" because he had to start riding the bus again?
Please, by all means, do hose down your driveway, and then post the "after" pictures, when someone arrives home. Everyone needs a good laugh now and again.

Take it to a local mom and pop hardware store. We have an Ace Hardware store in town. They're always more than helpful. If you're lucky, they may even do it for you and just charge you for the handle
When it snows. Check average snowfall. Decide on a point at which to shovel. 4 inches is usually ideal. Find, on average, how many incidences of snowfall crest 4 inches every season.
