How do I level out my very uneven lawn?
Hi there,
I'm pretty new to the gardening world, but I have a rather long back garden, about 14x40ft. But the grass has become almost non exsistant as I had a dog. But not only that its extemely uneven between pot holes and tufts of grass.
It was a lovely lush garden once upon a time.
I no longer have my dog and decided to make my garden a haven again, but that impossible with the uneven land I have ot there now.
So can anyone tell me what I can do to level my garden again?
What tools do I need? Should I kill off the grass I hae left and start fresh??
Please I've no clue so any help would be good.
Thank you.

If it is bare packed ground with a few tufts of grass here and there then you should go rent a machine that pulverizes the surface and then heavily sow good grass seed over the entir surface of the ground and keep it moist until the grass is up and growing. You will also get all sorts of weed seeds sprouting and you will need to get rid of the most obnoxious ones before they get too big. Slowly over months and years your lawn with look okay.
If it is mostly grass with bare spots then you just let the lawn gradually fill in the bare areas while you handpull out the most obnoxious weeds and nurse it along. Over time your lawn will look okay.
If you have the money you can also buy rolls of turf and put them on the lawn like putting together a jigsaw puzzle and have an instant lawn. You need to make sure the turf is pressed against the soil beneath it and keep it watered all the time until the plants underneath die and the grass roots grow down into the soil beneath and connect it to the water and nutrients there. A lot of people forget the turf isn’t actually connected to the ground underneath and stupidly don’t water it or anything while watching it die and wondering why it is doing that.
cut the high grass to the level of the low grass so when it grows,it grows together and lives happy ever after…..
I would start fresh. Kill the old grass, til the soil, pull out all the dead old grass and roots and other debris. Then you can either do this yourself or hire someone but have fill dirt brought in and spread and leveled. Seed or sod. For the garden do the same thing, clean it out rocks, weeds and roots. I would take the top about 1 shovel lengths of the soil out and fill it with garden soil.
